mixed media

i developed this mixed media/photo transfer technique after taking a workshop in new york in 2005.....it became the vehicle to produce what i had long been looking for.....to combine photography with painting....

after the loss of my mother.....
i found myself needing to keep her presence with me through looking at old photographs of our life together.....i began to realize how important those images had become in keeping my memory of her present.....my new direction needed to reflect the idea of how memory is our link to the past and that photographs give us the ability to keep those experiences and loved ones with us in the here and now.....i also wanted to show memory’s mysterious and illusive nature.....sometimes faded.....sometimes vague.....and for lack of a better word “torn”.....never knowing what will remain...

the physical “transfer” process has become the most important aspect of this work.....i do have some control over the results but rarely know what will remain.....i love the mystery in finding what will be left behind.....the mystery of what will be remembered.....
